The Ivy Hotel- Adults Only
We selected The Ivy for its pool deck: fully rebuilt in a recent renovation and...
O:LV Fifty Five succeeded the original O:live Boutique Hotel on the same stretch of Condado, keeping the address but rebuilding the concept into twenty-six suites, every one of them with a view of the Condado Lagoon. The lagoon, not the ocean itself, is the view on offer here, and the hotel builds its entire pitch around that distinction rather than apologising for it. The design leans into gold, white and jewel tones against dark marble, a palette chosen to feel residential rather than corporate. Suites come individually styled rather than templated, with oversized bathrooms, soaking tubs and rainfall showers, and some rooms place a freestanding tub beside the bed itself rather than behind a door. A number of suites open onto private balconies that look directly over the water, the detail that separates this address from most of Condado's beachfront stock.
We were drawn to O:LV Fifty Five because it commits fully to a small number of rooms rather than spreading a brand across a resort-sized footprint: twenty-six suites, each treated individually, inside a property recently curated into the Michelin Guide. It is a different proposition from the larger Condado resorts nearby, aimed at a traveller who wants intensity in a small footprint rather than scale. The rooftop does the work that would otherwise need a spa or a second restaurant to justify the address: an infinity pool facing the lagoon, a hot tub, and a DJ booth that turns sunset into an event rather than a backdrop. A converted Rolls-Royce serving as the lobby's champagne bar signals, without saying so directly, that this hotel is not trying to be understated.
The hotel sits across the street from the Condado Lagoon, with Playita del Condado, one of the neighbourhood's calmer beaches, a short walk away. Old San Juan is roughly ten minutes by car for travellers who want the colonial quarter during the day, and the airport sits at a similar distance for arrivals and departures that do not eat into a trip. Condado itself supplies the rest: restaurants, boutiques and a beachfront promenade within walking distance, without requiring a taxi for dinner. It is a location built for a short, high-impact stay rather than a long base for touring the island.

Our Favorite Thing About the Hotel: the converted Rolls-Royce serving as the lobby's champagne bar
Dining: DRGN (Asian-Caribbean fusion, chef Roberto Treviño), DANTE (contemporary Italian)
Amenities: rooftop infinity pool and hot tub facing the lagoon, DJ booth, spa treatments on request, adults-only
Attractions: Condado Lagoon, Playita del Condado beach, Old San Juan about ten minutes by car
The ground floor sets the tone before guests reach their rooms: dark marble underfoot, brass fittings, leather and velvet seating, and lighting designed to sculpt the space rather than simply illuminate it. The converted Rolls-Royce doubling as a champagne bar is the kind of gesture that could read as kitsch elsewhere; here, set against the rest of the design, it reads as confidence. It is a lobby built to be lingered in rather than passed through, closer in spirit to a members' club than to the check-in counters of Condado's larger beachfront hotels.
Dinner here means choosing between two kitchens rather than one: DRGN, led by chef Roberto Treviño, serves Asian-Caribbean fusion, while DANTE keeps to contemporary Italian, and guests can move between the two without leaving the building. The real draw, though, sits on the roof: an infinity pool angled toward the Condado Lagoon, a hot tub beside it, and a DJ booth that turns the last hour of daylight into the hotel's social centre. It is the kind of amenity that justifies staying in for the evening rather than treating the hotel as a base for going elsewhere.
